At Body Local, we champion the value of body-oriented practitioners (from fitness, wellness, and nutrition fields) networking with one another to grow their businesses.
Here are the 4 keys to mastering this process:
Practice being very specific with who you help and with what and incorporate this into how you speak to new contacts. Trust your niche!
And then walk away with a few (and just a few) contacts that you've connected with (and/or want to after the event) that have the most potential, specifically for you.
2. Know Your Why's
Why do you do what you do? Why are you working where you are now? Why do you want to connect with who you do?
Having answers to these questions will allow you to go deeper with your new connections, fast. There is practically nothing as engaging as hearing someone's why.
Not much ever happens at networking events. If you are ready to use Body Local as a way to build, cultivate, and deepen professional relationships, it's all in the follow-through.
Knowing this at the event, also frees you up! You don't need to sort out everything that you could possibly do with someone in that moment. Plant a seed for a follow-up call or coffee or lunch. Then take the time to actually get to know this person. The great thing is that you then have numerous opportunities to show this person how you actually show up for another professional. How you respond to their email, how you give your attention on the phone, how you show up on time for your meeting... all of these details actually give your new potential referral partner a strong sense of how you show up in the world.
And that's what they need to know to bring their most precious commodity (their clients) to your door.
